“Just be strong"

 

Our Torah consists of Mitzvot inter alia representing a variety of groups and understandings. Practical and spirituals. One mitzvah in Parashat Re’eh has a unique – if not a “ strange”  - incentive. It does not offer any reward, such as the one related to “Respect thy father and thy mother- that thy days will belong in the land which the Lord thy G-d gives thee”. It is not a command that has its logic reflected in it, such as “For a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous”. The verse relates to the prohibition to drink the blood of an animal reads as follows:  “Only be sure that thou eat not the blood”. In Hebrew, the word is חזק, which means  ״be strong” not to eat the blood. 

Rabbi Moshe David Lieberman, the leader of the community and the most inspiring religious leader in Belgium today, asked an interesting question relating to this Mitzva. Do we actually need an incentive not to eat blood? How many of us are capable to drink blood?  Does this specific Mitzvah which is so easy to obey, require the encouragement of “be strong”? Are there no more seductive rules requiring spiritual strength? Why did the Torah use this phrase only in relation to the drinking of blood of an animal? 

The distinguished Rabbi had his reply. 

Following the Rabbi  Shlit”a’s question, I  would like to offer an interpretation and reasoning demonstrating the vision expressed in the Torah itself? 

 

Antisemitism is an integral part of world history and Jewish history from its inception. Antisemitic events, large and small were shared by the Jewish people from the very beginning. The Holocaust was its peak. 

Other junctions are known to us in the “history of anti-Semitism”. There are chapters of “anti-Semitic” actions that repeat themselves. [Indeed, in a recent “Hate Crime Report” issued by the FBI on 30th August 2021, relating to the year 2020, “of all hate crimes motivated by hatred of the victims due to religion, 57.5% were targeted Jews.  Jews make up less than 2% of the population in the USA].  

There are “anti-Semitic “thinking” that have returned time and time again.  Active Anti-Semitism demonstrated the norm during  The Inquisition,  the  Pogroms in Eastern Europe as well, of course,  at the Holocaust. Anti-Semitic thinking - which resulted in the spilling of blood – are symbolized amongst other examples by the Protocols of Elders of Zion, a document of fraud worded by Okhrana – the secret police operating under the Russian Czar -  published in the Zenaida newspaper. [These protocols gained many translations inclusive of in Arabic in 1976]. 

Other antisemitic infamous “thinking” were found in The protocols of the Elsers of Zion, as well as   Der Stürmer,  and the Volkiacsher Beobachter , to mention just examples.

 Blood libels are being interwoven in the history of Anti-Semitism. They were mentioned in Josephus Flavius’s book, Versus Apion.  They were found in Europe in the courts of the Inquisition who executed Jews by burning them to death, also as punishments for the alleged usage of Christian blood. Later, classical blood libels were found in Norwich England 1144, in Lincoln 1255, Vaois, France in 1171, Pforzheim Baden, Germany in 1267, and many other locales. The libels repeated themselves. Later they were found in the centre and Eastern Europe; the “Damascus Libel “being the most noteworthy, gaining international publicity in 1840. And of course, the “Bailys Trial” of 1911, which should be considered the most famous blood libel in the 20th Century. Why, even in the United States there were cases of Blood libel in 1932. There is no doubt that it was a major “philosophical” incentive for every Anti-Semite as a justification for the murder of Jews. 

Asher Hirsh Zvi Ginzburg also known by his pseudonym “Ahad Ha’am”, wrote a phenomenal article about Blood Libels called  “חצי נחמה”- Half a Condolence, which he published on 5th October 1892, in the Hamelitz newspaper. Inter alia Ahad Ha’am wrote as follows:

"A Russian writer asked naively. As the whole world hates the Jews. Can it be said that the whole world is guilty, and the Jews are innocent? This question sneaks today into the hearts of many of our brothers. Can it be said that all these corrupted qualities and evil deeds that the whole world relates to the Jews are nothing but false?.... can it be that the whole world is guilty, and the Jews are innocent"? 

Ahad Ha’am replies:

"Indeed, yes. And the blood libel will prove it. Here, the Jews are innocent and as pure as angels.  A  Jew and the blood? Are there more contradicting terms than these? Yet… ".

Precisely. Although we snub the idea of drinking an animal’s blood, although we know that Blood Libels are just libels, many in the world believed them. And Ahad Ha’am concluded. The World can err. 

If we may summarize his words, we will say, ‘the fact that the world is thinking does not necessitate that the world is thinking of a fact’. 

Let us remember this. We can be righteous even if the whole world is against us. This conclusion should serve as חצי נחמה“ - half a condolence.

The Bible anticipated these chapters in the history of the Jewish people. When the Torah relates to the drinking of blood of an animal, orders “just be strong”,  it did not mean to demand of us to overcome the desire for blood. The meaning is, be strong against the accusation that we eat blood, as the accusations will arise time and again. But then – be strong  - and let this strength be for us “half a condolence”.

The challenges to our faith are major. The outside influences cause the Jewish people to lose more of their numbers than they did during the Holocaust. However, during World War Two the loss was brutally forced on us. Today, the loss is voluntary; assimilation, the forgetting of faith. The ‘thinking’ “that I am and none else besides me”. Sometimes degrading those who believe or practice religion. But he who degrades “in the dark will he walk”. Forgetting God’s promise, “I will also give thee for a light to the nations”.

Rabbi Joseph Halevi Soloveitchik zt”l in his article, “On the Measures of Truth and Peace”, refers to the contradiction between these two virtues. “Every man is unique in his world and no man mirrors the other. And so, his ideas differ, and he is unable to agree with his friends. Indeed, human beings learn to live together and even judges follow the majority. Being able to concede is a prime virtue that brings peace to the world. But it is not the truth. Truth insists on its own and does not concede even a drop…  Peace and truth are two measures contradicting one another”.

And although G-d’s name is Peace, his seal is Truth. “ The measure of peace won. G-d took the truth and cast it to the ground”.  The Rabbi concludes, “generally peace won”. 

Indeed, Daniel, the Biblical leader stated, “and you have thrown peace to the ground”. But King David said, “Peace will grow from the ground”. Whatever Daniel said as interpreted by our Rabbis to coincide with the hopes of King David. Only when truth will be “cast” to the ground of the day to day reality, in variance to the abstract or theoretical, it will grow. However, for the ground to enable growth, it must be fertile. The ground cannot be fertile, it cannot grow anything, but with this tool known as ‘peace’, as “thus said Rabbi Simeon Ben Chalafta.  G-d did not find a tool that holds more blessings to Israel but peace”. Indeed, the Shulchan Aruch rules not to disclose the truth if such disclosure will violate the peace, as there is no possibility to implement truth without peace. Peace is the tool. The context of the tool is truth. 

Today, with all the storming arguments, when feelings are contentious, disputes do not “say enough”. We, the Jewish people, who unequivocally believe in G-d, should know how to manage a dispute in peace. How to disagree but not to argue. How to speak but also to listen. How to listen, not for the purpose of replying, but with the aim of trying to understand. 

We should not only exchange opinions for heaven’s sake, it should look that we do so for heaven’s sake. Even in disagreements with those who do not believe, we are to conduct our conversations differently. To implement “הנה מה טוב ומה נעים שבת אחים גם יחד”[How good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity]. As “כל ישראל ״ערבים זה לזה  [all Israel are guarantors to one another]. 

None of us has a right to veto another Jew and to shake off our responsibilities towards him or her. If we will express our opinions with love and friendliness,  in peace and in dignity, in every subject and every matter, we will succeed. We will construct the bridge from near to far away. If we implement “In truth and peace thou shall love” then “for eternity they would be for happiness and festivals”. 

In Hebrew the word “Reyut- friendship” is spelled with the letter י . The word “Raot-evil” is spelled the same way, however with the omission of the letter י. According to the Zohar, the letter  י represents more than any other letter, G-d’s name.  The introduction to the Zohar states as follows. “ The letter י  said before the omnipresent – ‘Master of the Universe, you should consent to create the world through me as I represent the first letter of the holy name’”. G-d replied to י, “it is enough that you are inscribed in me… and all my desires are expressed in you”. 

When there is Reyut with the special letter י, there are no Raot. But if the letter י  was displaced from the word, the Reyut – friendship -  is converted to Raot- evil. We are obligated to keep and guard the י.

אני ואפסי עוד

התמזל מזלי והקשבתי היום לראיון שהעניקה שרת הפנים, חברת הכנסת איילת שקד לאחד מערוצי הרדיו.  ראיון מרשים נעדר התלהמות, אבל עם מסר שאין מי החפץ ליישמו.  הגברת שקד חזרה והסבירה, כפי שעשו רבים וטובים, הן מהתחום הפוליטי, הן אנשי מדע ורפואה והן אנשי מקצוע בצמרת משרד הבריאות, כי אימת התקלות הינה העובדה שלמעלה ממיליון וחצי איש לא התחסנו.

תומס הובס בספרו המפורסם Leviathan The Matter, Form and Power of a Commonwealth, Ecclesiastical  and Civil  תיאר את ברי אנוש מוותרים על חלק מזכויותיהם על מנת שהלוויתן יגן עליהם.  ככל שהלוויתן כופה מרותו פחות, האדם חופשי יותר. אך ללא הלוויתן, נדרדר למצב הטבעי של ״אדם לאדם זאב״.  אבל היה זה ווינסטון צ׳רצ׳ל שכתב בנובמבר 1947, וכך לשונו.

Many forms of government have been tried and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise.  Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.

דמוקרטיה יעילה הינה דמוקרטיה היודעת את גבולותיה, היודעת ש״עת לפרוץ ועת לבנות .... עת לשמור ועת להשליך... עת לקרוע ועת לתפור״ עת לכבד את החופש ועת להגבילו.

אכן כי כן, אנו חיים במדינה דמוקרטית, ואשר חופש בחירתו של כל אחד מאתנו, לפעול או לא לפעול, לעשות או לא לעשות, הינה חלק מהותי מצורת המשטר כאן.  כמובן, ישנם מגבלות לחופשתו של האדם במדינה דמוקרטית, שלא תהא זו הדמוקרטיה מבוא לאנרכיה.  כך על כולנו לשלם מיסים, לא נעבור באור אדום, אל לנו לעבור במסלול הירוק עם מוצרים החייבים במכס, לא ננפנף בתואר אקדמי שאין לנו, יש מקצועות שלא נוכל לאמץ לעצמנו כי אם בדקך הקבועה בחוק, ועוד אלפי מגבלות, 

אחד האתגרים היותר מובנים מאליהם אצל כל  דמוקרטיה, אך אינה שנוי המחלוקת, הינו החובה לשרת שרות צבאי. שרות שיש בו על מנת לשלול זכויות דמוקרטיות רבות.  יתר על כן, במהלך שירותו הצבאי אמור החייל לשמוע לפקודות, לסכן את חייו, וחלילה אף למות למען המדינה.

אבל אלו המגבלות, מובנות הן. העם היושב בציון מוקף אויבים, ועלינו להגן על זו הדמוקרטיה מהמבקשים את נפשה.  המחיר? כספי? בוודאי. אבל יותר מכך, שלילת זכויות האזרח כאזרח.  הווי אומר, אנו מתירים לעצמנו להגן על הדמוקרטיה על ידי שנצמצם את הדמוקרטיה.

אף היום נמצאת האנושות במלחמת עולם. לאויב צבא מורכב. הנגיף, שורש המגפה [עם כל הספקולציות האופפות שורשיות זו], והחייל המסוכן ביותר, שאינו מתכוון לשרת את האויב אבל עושה זאת.  אותו המסרב להתחסן.

למעלה ממיליון וחצי  אזרחי המדינה בישראל לא התחסנו.  כל אחד ואחד מהם יכול להדביק גם את אותו  שהתחסן.  כל אחד ואחד מהם ״תורם״ לעוצמתו של האויב , תורם לצעידה הבטוחה אלי סגר, תורם לנזק כלכלי אדיר למדינה ולכל אזרחיה [לרבות הוא עצמו].

הנהג הישראלי  הוא אחד מאתנו.  אבל אם הוא נוהג תוך סיכון האחר, גם ללא כוונה להזיק, הרשות יודעת כיצד לטפל בו.  לעתים תוך שלילת חירותו, שלא לדבר על קנסות ושלילת זכותו ליישב על יד ההגא .

אותו המסרב להתחסן אינו שונה מהנהג המסוכן שהאחר ״אינו מזיז לו״.  אז אם הוא מאיים על האחר, הוא חוטא לעקרונות הדמוקרטיה שגם לאחר מותר לחיות.  הוא חוטא ל״ליוויתן״  כמו גם לערבות ההדדית.  וכמו שמטילים סנקציות על נהג פרוע, יש להטיל סנקציות על המסרב להתחסן.

זה לא דמוקרטי? לעתים יש להגן על הדמוקרטיה מפני אימת הדמוקרטיה.   חלקתי על הדעה המשפטית שראתה ״בהפגנות בלפור״ ״פרה קדושה״ ואשר סכנת הקורונה נדחתה מפניה. בדיוק כפי שהתנגדתי לחתונות ההמוניות. כי ״פיקוח נפש דוחה שבת״. ו – כן. פיקוח נפש דוחה זכויות דמוקרטיות, כמו הזכות להפגין, כמו הזכות לערוך אירועי ענק, וכמו שלא להתחסן. אז החילונו בצעדים מדודים.  ללא תו ירוק לט יכול הסורר להיכנס למקומות אלו או אחרים. אין די בכך.

אני מציע שאדם שלא יתחסן לא יוכל לנהוג [שכל נהג יישא אתו את התו הירוק].  אני מציע להגביל את יכולת הסורר לפעול בחשבונות הבנק שלו, ואני מציע שמי שאינו מתחסן יקבל קנס כספי, בדיוק בדומה לאותם שסרבול העוף פניהם במסכה אצל ״ההקפה הראשונה״ של הקורונה.

במלחמה, כמו במלחמה, מן הצורך לצמצם את חטיבות האויב.  נהג מסוכן מורחק מהכביש. המסרב להתחסן מורחק מיכולתו לפעול.  יש לו ברירה. להתחסן.

שאינם מתחסנים גורמים נזק אדיר למדינה.  שישלמו הם את המחיר.  לא את, לא אתה ולא אני.

מאצל פרץ חדשותי הבקר נמצאתי ״למד[?]״ כי אתמול בנאומו במליאת הכנסת,

״מהרסייך ומחריבייך מימי ייצאו״

נבואתו זו של הנביא ישעיהו נאמרה אמנם כנבואת נחמה. היום מבקש אני להצביע על פרשנות אחרת, שלילית יותר של הנבואה. והכל בהסתמך על ״מעשה שהיה״.

 הזעזוע הפוליטי שעוברת המדינה בימים אלה, אין לו אח ורע. הציבור מאבד אמון במנהיגיו בשל נסיבות אלה ואחרות.  ואני את דברי היום אחלק לשלושה פרקים.

ה״כלי מחזיק ברכה״ ״היעיל״ ביותר היום במערכת הפוליטית, הינו כלי השנאה. יש בה בשנאה על מנת ללבות את היצר ולאחד כנגד האחר.  לא, אין מכנה משותף נוסף.  רק ״האחר״. היה זה אביו של הנשיא הסורי העכשווי, חאפז אל אסאד, ואשר בתקופתו סבלו אזרחיה של סוריה ממשבר כלכלי ארוך ומייגע, לרבות הקצבת חשמל. פתרונו של אותו מנהיג היה לאחד את העם.  כיצד? נגד ישראל.  כשביקש סאדאם חוסיין לערער את ההתנגדות בעולם הערבי לפלישתו לכוויית, הצביע על ירושלים כמטרתו הסופית. לא לחינם בקשו אשר על הממשל בארצות הברית מראש הממשלה יצחק שמיר שלא להגיב לירי הטילים כלפי ישראל, על מנת שלא לערער את תמיכת העולם הערבי כנגד אותו צורר.

גם העולם היהודי חלוק, ויש יהודים המכים בישראל ללא רחם.  אותם יהודים עובדי Google התומכים בחרם של החברה על ״הענן הגדול״ שאמור לשמש את המדינה,  או סטודנטים יהודים ברחבי העולם ואשר מדינת ישראל פשוט מפריעה להם.

גם בתוכנו צומחים ״ אנטישמים קטנים״.  הם קטנים באשר הם שטחיים. הם קטנים באשר הידע באמתחתם הינו חלל ריק בניגוד גמור ל״פופוליזם״ שהם מפגינים כלפי כל דבר אנטי דתי אותו הם מבקשים להאדיר ובכל מחיר. ראשון להם בימים ״חגיגיים״ אלה הינו אביגדור ליברמן. הסכיתו לדברים שאמר [״את החרדים יחד עם ביבי למריצה אחת, ולמזבלה״ הייתה רק האחרונה שבהם]. יש לו חברים לחשיבה. רון חולדאי שחרד מדוכני תפילין בסמיכות לבתי הספר, וההיסטריה של משא הבחירות שלו שהביאתו לקריסה בשל היותה מאום כי אם שנאה.

האזינו לדברים שאמרו אנשי סיעתו של ליברמן. צפו בסרטונים שהפיצו ותבינו. ״החושך שבנאורות״.  סוד קיומם של אנשים המבקשים לייצג ״חשיבה״ ומייצגים הבל. והנה, בקשו מבחרם של חברי כנסת להוכיח ששנאת האחר אינה נחלת יחיד.  צא ולמד. יו״ר מרצ, חברת ְהכנסת תמר זנדברג הגתה את ״הרעיון״ העמוק להוסיף לחוק העונשים סעיף ועל פיו, חסידי חב״ד שישדלו קטינים להניח תפילין, דינם שלושה חודשי מאסר. כך.  אתם מבינים? חברת הכנסת הדגולה לא איימה על מנהלי בתי ספר בחשיפה פלילית בשל מכונות הקונדומים בפרוזדורים שכל זאטוט בן עשר יכול לרכוש. אבל תפילין? כן. 

סליחה. איני בטוח מי ניצח בתחרות בעומק מחשבתה של חברת הכנסת זנדברג.  הרשע או רוח השטות.  אבל התחרות קשה. מה חושבת כבוד חברת הכנסת. שהתפילין חושפים את הילד לסכנה יותר מהקונדום? או שהיא מבקשת להתחרות עם מר ליברמן?

חכו וראו. יבוא עוד מבין תאבי הבצע הפוליטי ויידרשו לאסור בישראל את ברית המילה [נסיון דומה כבר מתרחש בצרפת], ואת השחיטה הכשרה. במילים אחרות להפוך את עצמנו ממש למתייוונים.

כזכור, כבר נדונה בכנסת שאלת בחירת המין על ידי קטין ו״הרעיון״ למנוע מהורה להתערב בגישתו של הקטין ובחירתו המינית. מה ההבדל בין חינוך ההורים וקביעתם לעניין זה ובין האיסור של בחור בן עשרים לנהל מערכת יחסים עם ילדה בת 14 או 12?  למה שמשהו יתערב? האומנם? ילד יכול לבחור את בחירתו המינית אבל לא לקיים יחסי מין כרצונו?

ואולי ייקבעו שוחרי החופש מחר כי מותר לשכב עם הכלב שלך, להתחתן עם אחותך, אב יוכל לנהל רומן עם ביתו? מדוע לא? היכן הגבול? התפילין?

הגבול האסור הינו ההשקפה הדתית? כל השאר מותר? כנות יש כאן? חשיבה יש כאן? שנאה יש כאן.  במחילה, בהמיות יש כאן. ״ הכל מותרים לך״ צעד אחר צעד. שכחנו. אתונה ורומי קרסו בשל חשיבות כאלה.  אבל אני לא מצפה לא מתמר זנדברג ולא מאיווט ליברמן לקרוא  עמוקות על ההיסטוריה של שתי אומות אלו. הרבה יותר פשוט לתקוף את הדתיים. להדעיך כל נושא דתי. לבזות את השורשים, להשכיח את היהדות. לנסות לעקור כל נושא דתי כי הוא דתי. ״אנטישמיות קטנה״.

ובראשם של אלה מבקש לעמוד אדם שעמד בראש המפד״ל, שעמד בראש הבית היהודי, המבקש ״ממשלת איחוד״.  איחוד אמרנו?  את מי הוא מאחד? דתיים וחילוניים? חרדים ושאינם מאמינים? אין הוא – האדם החכם הזה, מבין שהנזק שגורם הוא לכל ערך יהודי – בעל כורחו – הינו בלתי הפיך? האם המטרה מקדשת כל אמצעי?

נעבור לנושא הבא.

״מהרסייך ומחריבייך מימך ייצאו״. היה זה חנן פורת ז״ל שבעצם החל את כדור השלג המתגלגל שהביא – לראשונה בתולדות מדינת ישראל – להפלתה של ממשלה בישראל בהצבעת אי אימון. ממשלה ימנית בראשותו של יצחק שמיר ז״ל. הווי אומר, הימין הפיל את הימיו. ״אין חדש תחת השמש״. שלושה אשמים יש לכשלון הימין דהאינא.  ראש הממשלה, מר בנימין נתניהו, נפתלי בנט, ובצלאל סמוטריץ'.  ראש הממשלה ביקש תמיכתם של אחרים.  דרישת התמיכה שלו מנפתלי בנט הייתה מבזה, משפילה [את ״סוף השבוע בבלפור״ שכחתם?]. דרישתו  מנפתלי בנט לתמוך בו – ובמיוחד בדרישתו לשנוי שיטת הבחירות על מנת לבחור בראש ממשלה באופן ישיר – הייתה דרישה להתאבדות פוליטית. ראש הממשלה לא ניסה לקרב את הימין החדש. החרמת בלפור את בנט ושקד היתה הפגנה של קריסת ההבנה הפוליטית. נבצר מבינתי, כיצד יכול היה האיש החכם [ללא מרכאות] הזה לחשוב שעם שישפיל את בנט, יבזה את איילת שקד, יפגינו הוא ורעייתו את סלידתם מהם, יקרבו אותם לתמיכה בו?

נפתלי בנט הבטיח פעם אחר פעם כי לא יישב בממשלה עם יאיר לפיד [מר כלום] כראש ממשלה. מר לפיד כראש ממשלה הינה סכנה אמיתית.  אני מבין. כמובן ׳״רק לא ביבי״ הינה המטרה המקדשת אמצעים רבים. אז אפשר גם את מר כלום.  מר בנט הינו אדם חכם.  ואפילו חכם מאוד. אין הוא מבין את האסון של מר כלום כראש ממשלה? מי שזייף תארים אקדמאיים, מי ששיבש את יומן פגישותיו, מי שהשכלתו מצחיקה אם לדבר בלשון המעטה, נעדר הבנה אבל אינו נטול יומרות, ישמש ראש ממשלה? וכפי שצעק פעם מר בנט כלפי שולחן הממשלה בכנסת -  ״השתגעתם״?

וכמובן בצלאל סמוטריץ'. אדם שאינו מוותר, אינו מוכר את עקרונותיו, אבל המפה קצרה מדי עבורו.  כפי שהסברתי בעבר, אין דבר חשוב יותר מה״ביחד״. אין דבר אותו נבקש יותר מאשר ״ביחד״ אצלנו ופירוד אצל המתעמרים לנו. אבל עקרונותיו של מר סמוטריץ' הביאו אותו לשלול בכל מחיר יצירת קרע באוכלוסיה הערבית. לו היה מקרב את ח״כ מנסור עבאס, היה הקרע בין אותו חבר כנסת ערבי ובין חבריו מתרחב, האיחוד נגד המדינה היה נסדק, והימין היה אוחז בקרני מזבח השילטון.

אבל הפילוסופיה גברה על הריאליות. החשיבה גברה על המעשיות. איני יודע מה תהא אחריתו של עבאס. אני יודע שהימין הפסיד את השלטון.

ועוד הערה אחת לי.  כלפי כבוד נשיא המדינה היוצא.

ידעת לדבר על הטוב על הרע ועל המכוער. מה עשה כבוד הנשיא חוץ מאשר להטיח דברים בשער? מתי דיבר הוא נגד האוירה העיתונאית? מתי הצביע הוא על תקלה בבית המשפט? והלא הטיח כבוד הנשיא בקורת חדשות לבקרים ברשות המחוקקת ובזו המבצעת. היעדרותו מהתמונה המסורתית לאחר השבעת הכנסת הפגינה פילוג, לא ניסיון לאחד. מדוע איפה ואיפה? איזו עשייה יצאה מבית הנשיא לשם הדעכת האלימות, השיח  המתלהם או השנאה הגועשת? 

״פתח לנו שער בעת נעילת שער״. יבוא נשיא חדש או תבוא נשיאה יהא דיבורם מעט ועשייתם רבה. 

Reality? What is this?

 

                                               

 

Let us look at the facts as simply as we can.  Just name a few of them.  Most of them known to all.  However, if you cannot substantiate them, let me know, I will send the substantiation to you.

 

What is the difference between Hamas and Israel.

 

1.   Does Israel wish Gaza to vanish from the face of the earth?  No.  Does Hamas wish to annihilate Israel?  Very much so, as is reflected, inter alia, in Hamas’s constitution.

 

2.   Every few years Hamas escalates tension between Israel and Gaza by shooting thousands – yes, thousands - of rockets, indiscriminately all over Israel.  True, Israel manages to challenge the vast majority of these missiles – this does not make such shooting less of a crime. When Israel is blowing up a building in Gaza, it gives prior notice to the residents to leave.  Each of such buildings hosts a Hamas enterprise.

 

3.   Does Israel use schools, Hospitals, mosques, or synagogues, from where to shoot the other side? No.  Does Hamas? Yes, it does.

 

4.   Ah yes.  There is no electricity in Gaza or medication.  Israel, yes, Israel, while fighting the terrorists, have trucks full of goods cross the border to Gaza to help the man in the street.  How does Hamas react? Rocketing the area where the trucks are [Kerem Shalom].

 

5.   The world pours billions in Gaza.  Where is the money going to?  Built hospitals? Try again.  Schools? Wrong again. Infrastructure? Hmmmm.  Sorry.  Tunnels under Israeli kibbutzim so terrorists can infiltrate them. Just as Hezbollah does in the north. And, oh yes, finance the stunning glamorous life style of its leaders who dare not be in Gaza now, but reside in palaces around the Arab world.

 

6.   Some say that this time escalations had to do with Jerusalem.  A touching and moving argument – if only it was true. Was it the first time Hamas shot rockets at Israel, this argument might have been a good excuse?  But it is not.  So, Jerusalem is an excuse. Yes, just an excuse.  So why is Hamas taking a risk?  Hamas in Gaza is like Hezbollah in Lebanon.  A Proxy to do Iran’s bid, whose sole aim is to destabilise the Middle East.  Did you ask yourself where are all these rockets originated?  Look carefully.  Iran.

 

7.   And of course, there is another “reason”. Or excuse.  There is Mahmoud Abbas, the chairman of the Palestinian Authority.  He almost lost an elections in The West Bank to Hamas,  just now.  Yes, just before the rockets were fired from Gaza. So, like in a very “healthy” democracy, the chairman “postponed” the elections.  Hamas leaders who were about to win the elections could not retaliate against Fatah [Hamas kills opponents usually after winning elections, as they did to PLO personnel in Gaza after winning the first round of elections there in January, 2006]. There is no court within the Palestinian Authority to force Abu Mazen to hold the elections.  So, the best way to implicate the chairman is to fight Israel. Incite  the young in the West Bank, and so, deepen the dispute and hostility between Arab and Arab. No.  This is not an original idea.  When Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, he justified the invasion as Kuwait been  the first step on the way to Jerusalem.

 

8.   What is amazing is that leading media personalities are blind.  We hear on various networks, that Israel is at fault as it has less victims and less devastation than Gaza.  So, Israel reacted with “lack of proportions”.  Hmmmmmm. New York was not shattered during World War II.  London stood still, the Blitz notwithstanding. Berlin was ruined, Dresden was almost annihilated.  So binding to this logic, Germany was the victim, the allies represented evil.  The fact that Hamas shot indiscriminately all over Israel is not relevant.  The fact that Israel managed to protect itself, is. Now, those “great thinkers” in the media demand proportionate reactions.  What does that mean? “proportion”? Just protect yourself and await the second round? I am sure that is what they will say when North Korea attacks the South, or Cuba infiltrates Florida, or Iran invades the Gulf, or China attacks Taiwan.  [Well, The West inclusive of  the US could not do very much when Russia invaded Georgia or the Ukraine, so may be the same will be in other international conflicts as well, as can be seen now in the manner the West  challenge Russia, Turkey or Iran in Syria].  But Israel has a special place.  It is true, it does.  Israel, and only Israel will supply food and medicine to the people ruled by an enemy because the enemy simply does not care about its people, as long as its leaders and their children are safe in Dubai or the South of France. Only Israel’s hospitals will cater for Arabs from the region. Syria [victims of Bashar Assad’s policies], and, yes, Gaza [even at the risk of a terror attack, as was the case in the hospital in Beer Sheva that cared for a Palestinian girl from Gaza, whose mother  - during one of her visits – was found carrying a bomb at the border with Gaza.

 

9.   Ah, I almost forgot.  How does the US fight terror? Keeping an eye on the law? Or keeping an eye on how to avoid the law?   And that is how Guantanamo Bay became famous.  As in this location, there is no need to address human rights issues.  In the past, following 9/11, suspected Al Qaida members were sent by the USA to places like Egypt for interrogations, because the USA will not violate the law.

 

10. Israel is more honest.  We do not “mess around”.  We will devastate a terror entity, but while doing that, we will supply food and energy to the needy on the other sides.  The real needy.  Not funds that go to finance lifestyles or tunnels to add to terror, because “Iran said so”.

   

11. And my compliments to President Erdogan, whose purity and ethics are second to none.  Well except for the killing of Kurds indiscriminately, and having  jailed more journalists  than in any other country [yes, he deserves the top prize, he even beats Putin].  So, his criticism of Israel, should be treated like the gutter it is.

 

12. Those who now criticise Israel.  Many of you are good people.  You are misled.  Such misleading will hunt you.  Just remember. Hamas, Hezbollah, Boko Haram, the Mujahedeen Council, Taliban, ISIS, followers of Hadith,  or Al Qaeda, all follow Wahhabi or Salafi ideology. Israel is only the front door.  These entities are after Western civilisation, they are after Muslims who are tolerant.  Hamas is no difference.   That is why you do not find a statement by Hamas, against any terror acts in London, in Bali in Africa or even in Moscow.  In a detailed biography of Yasser Arafat, two British writers,  Andrew Gowers and Tony Walker made the following conclusion:  -  “to talk about world terrorism and not to mention the PLO, is like talking about the blood circulation and not mention the heart”.  Recently during a debate in Oxford Debating Society, a question was asked. Why are all terrorists being  associated by others  with Islam?  The question was applauded. Well, the truth is, do we know of people of other faiths who behead? What is the origin of the vast majority of terror activities around the World? What is the origin of the reasons for security at airports? Who killed more people in the name of religion in the last 100 years?  Let us remember. During the 1970s all terror groups around the world [The Italian Red Brigades, the IRA, The Japanese Red Army, to name just a few] had their military trainings in the Palestinian Refugees camps in Lebanon.  So the world moved on. No more Red Brigade. No more Red Army, not even  IRA. But Islamic terror extended. Yes, beyond the PLO. Hamas is just one such arms. One. Out of many.

 

Allow me a very daring political statement.  Supporting Hamas, you are risking your lives, your future not mine.

 

 

 

 

 

האמצעי שאינו מקדש את המטרה

אז בואו נחשוב יחדיו. מה הייתה המטרה, והאם הכלי להשגתה היה כלי חכם.

ראש הממשלה אינו אוהב את נפתלי בנט.  הוא בעצם שונא אותו.  קריאתו לבנט ולגדעון סער לפני כעשרה ימים ובה הסביר שנאמרו דברים במהלך מסע הבחירות אבל יש להניח הכל מאחור,  וצריך להתאחד לא עזרו. התקפותיו של ראש הממשלה וחבריו בליכוד על מר בנט ממש לא מרשימות. וביקורת הניתכת על מנת ״לשכנע״ צד לפעול, במקרה הזה מתפרשת כאיום. איום שאין בו ממש.  הביקורת המשתלחת, אין בה כי אם לקבע את השנאה, אתְ התיעוב ויותר מכל את המחלוקת.

ואז הגה מי שהגה את רעיון הבחירה הישירה.  והיום הזה [21 אפריל, 2021] נשמע ראש הממשלה מטיח בו במר בנט ביקורת ודברי לעג של ממש [סוף שבוע בבלפור] ואז דרישה להצביע בעד שנוי שיטת הבחירות. והדרישה לאחר המבוא רווי השנאה והזלזול, וודאי לא היווה תמריץ לבנט להציל את שלטון נתניהו. ומי שנתן לראש הממשלה אתְ ״עצת אחיתופל״ הלזו  שבשלה מסר את הודעתו היום לאחר הצהרתו של בנט, גרם לראש הממשלה נזק שהינו, אולי, בלתי הפיך.

ו״אחד העם״ היושב מן הצד שואל, כיצד חשב ראש הממשלה לשכנע את מר בנט?  בואו ננסה ונחשוב יחד.

הבחירות כבר מאחורינו. כך שניסיון ל״קרוע״ את אוהדי ״ימינה״ ממנהיגו אינו יעיל לעת הזאת. לו יצויין שמר בנט יסכים לרעיונו זה של ראש הממשלה, ברור שמר נתניהו ייבחר לראשות הממשלה.  ומאחר וראש הממשלה לא יהיה תלוי בכנסת  למעמדו [אולי כן לתפקודו] הוא יהרוס את ימינה. לו אני בנט, הייתי מתנגד לכל חקיקה המזמינה שנוי שיטת הבחירות כי עבור בנט וימינה מדובר בשאלה של ״חיים ומוות״ [פוליטיים כמובן].  ובמילים אחרות,  השנאה והביקורת, או אולי ״הבליץ הביקורתי״ של הליכוד על מר בנט הוא כה עז, שהצבעה של מר בנט לשנוי שיטת הבחירות תהווה התאבדות פוליטית.

אז נכון, ראש הממשלה – כל מה שהינו רוצה – זה להבטיח שהימין ימשיך לשלוט[?]. רעיון חשוב ומבטא בהחלט את רצון רוב העם.  היו שתי דרכים לעשות זאת ונשארה רק אחת.

אני אישית ישבתי עם ראש הממשלה לפני ״ארבע כנסות״ בעניינו של מר בנט, ואז הצעתי לו, במקום לשנוא, ״לחבק״,  ואם להיות יותר ציני ״ You keep your friends close, you keep your enemies closer״.  אבל הקרע רק העמיק ובבלפור תיעבו את בנט ואת איילת שקד. לא בדיוק התמריץ הטוב ביותר לתמיכה 

אז נשארה עוד אופציה אחת בלבד להבטיח את שלטון הימין מבלי שימינה תתאבד בשביל נתניהו.  על מר נתניהו לזוז הצידה. אם ימונה לליכוד מנהיג אחר, ישוב גדעון סהר, ישוב נפתלי בנט, תהא פה ממשלה יציבה ואף יציבה מאוד. כן, בראשות הליכוד. כן, ממשלה ימינית.

אז מה באמת חשוב? שלטונו של מר נתניהו או שלטון הימין בראשות הליכוד?

שלא יפורשו דברי שלא כהוגן.   בנימין   נתניהו הינו ראש ממשלה מדהים. לא קשה לקבוע כי הוא היה הטוב בראשי הממשלות שהיו לנו, גם אם קביעה כזו הינה לצנינים בעיני רבים בציבור.  אבל אם הוא יחזיק  בעמדתו  לאחר שכשל ארבע פעמים פוליטית, הוא עוד עלול להעביר את השרביט ל״מר כלום״, הלא הוא חבר הכנסת יאיר לפיד, הכל בשל השפלתו את מר בנט.

אז שוב חוזרת השאלה. האם דאגתו של מר נתניהו הינה לשלטון הימין, או לשלטונו של מר נתניהו? פינוי מקומו למנהיג אחר בליכוד ישאיר את שלטון הימין. אחיזה בקרנות המזבח תרחיק את מר נתניהו מבלפור ותרחיק את הימין  מהגא השלטון.

ידע מי שמייעץ למר נתניהו. הייעוץ לא מוכיח את עצמו. כי את שמסיגים עם כפית של דבש, לא מסיגים עם פלוגה של טנקים.

אבל אולי אומן הפוליטיקה [והוא אומן ראוי להערצה] עוד ילמד אותנו קורס נוסף ב״מדעי המדינה״ שאנו לא ערים לו.  ומי יודע אילו מפלגות עוד עומדות עכשיו לקראת קריסה כי מר נתניהו נוגח בם בשקט ועוד יימצאו שם עריקים ומחלוקות [זוכים את ״כחול לבן״].
