Imagination and Reality
It was The French writer Jules Veren who described in 1873, in his
book, De La Terre De La Lune an imaginary story of a journey from earth
to space. Neil Armstrong and Edwin
Aldrin, flying the Apolo 11 to the moon in July of 1969 converted the famous
French writer’s dream to reality.
Over 30 years ago the two
Historians, The American Larry Collins and the French Dominique La Pierre [O Calcutta; Jerusalem, Jerusalem; Is Paris Burning] wrote
their only “fiction”. The Fifth
Horseman. The book introduces a
startling story about a terrorist group representing the interests of Libya. The group succeeded in smuggling to Manhattan
a rediooactive bomb. Muamar Kaddafi then sent an ultimatum to the Administration in DC. Either Israel vacate the West Bank or New
York is going to vanish. The book
describes the decision making process in a number of capitals. It was three years ago when fiction almost became a
prophesy when a dirty bomb was found in Washington.
Unfortunately, many assume
that the Arab Israeli conflict is the source of all danger and the root
of all terror we witness. Indeed, this
is a very “comfortable” assumption but will lead nobody anywhere. The Russian Czars used to accuse the Jews of all the ills of the economy. The
Flourishing Antisemitism did not save
Russia’s economy. Modern times “did not
change “the music. When lights in
Damascus went off four hours daily, when every Syrian student who studied
abroad had a budget of 25 Dollars a month, the Syrian economy was at the edge of total collapse, the Late President Hafez el Assad managed to
keep his “reputation” by directing the attention of the Syrian citizenry from
internal difficulties, to The Jews in the West. The Palestinians live in most
degrading and humiliating conditions, while their “leaders” celebrate by purchasing apartments in the
most luxurious places in the West, flying first class and never sending their
children as Shahids [or to schools in Palestine, for that matter]. Suha Araft’s [Yassir’s wife] financial arrangement [offering her millions of
Dollars] did not reach the attention of the refugees as their attention was
directed against the Zionists.
Alas, Al Qaida, Hezbollah,
The Muslim Brotherhoods, the extreme Shiites in the south of Iraq, The Wahabbis
in Saudi Arabia or The Taliban, now reawakening in Afghanistan and the President
of Iran, consider “ Western civilization ”[not just Israel] a dangerous
enemy. Indeed President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad of Iran believes in the return of the
Twelfth Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi [the lost Imam]. Following his return, the world will succumb
to Islam. To enhance the Yaum
al-Qiyamah (literally "Day of the Resurrection"] or the return The Mahadi, all means are permitted. And if Muslims have to die [Jews and
Christians are not even an issue] in order to achieve this goal, so be it.
This is so as Western civilization cannot
survive together with Shiite Islam. Shiite thinking seek the control of the world
by any means. So does the al Qaida
[although rooted in Sunni Islam] Thus
confirmed Mohammed Machine to professor Amal Sa’ad Gurhayerin from The American University in Beirut to his book Hezbollah, Politics and Religion.
If the West fails to
understand the real problem, if the
Sunnis [outside the Wahabbi thinking] fail
to understand where the real threat comes from, they will both fail. The West might fail because France supported Iraq’s Tamuz project, The West might fail because it
allowed Pakistan to become a non conventional power, and its political
stability is shaking, thus its nuclear power might fall to extreme Islamic groups]
the West might fail as Larry Collins and Dominique La Pierre could
become prophets. The West might fail as many West European leaders assume they can buy security by offering
political support, offering financial and military help to leaders who consider the countries they
rule as a private domain [Saudi Arabia, Syria,], and the West might fail as it fails to understand that Israel is
the only country that actually fights terror. Thomas Friedman was right when he wrote in The New York Times that if they do not let Israel win against terror, a new version of terror will arrive in London, in Paris,
Berlin and Brussels.

The West has to decide if it
wants to be Chamberlain or Churchill. Czechoslovakia or England. It
depends on one element. Determination.
