New York Times - July 15th 2010

Once again The US is criticizing Israel vis-à-vis Jerusalem, this time for the demolition of houses built without building permits.

The issue of building in Jerusalem is a symbol of "confusion" by "a fair broker". The approval for Jewish building in Jerusalem causes the most severe crises between US and Israel since the tenure of President Carter. Now, Palestinians built thousands [yes, thousands] of houses without obtaining licenses. Not a word to Abu Mazen, as the freezing of the status quo applies to Israel only. If only Israel is prohibited from building, but the Palestinians can, then The Administration is not preparing for  negotiations,  they have concluded the negotiation by insisting at this stage that Israel freezes everything, not the Palestinians. Fair mediator? Or is Lewis Caroll right, "Verdict First, Trial Later"?

Zalli Jaffe.
