Letter to The New York Times - May 07th 2008

Dear Sir;

I am referring to your article about the Arabs in Israel published today. Unfortunately a few facts are missing. You were correct in stating that most Arabs in the Islamic World do not have the freedom exercised by the Arabs in Israel. Unfortunately, The Israeli Arabs have a leadership. This leadership assumingly expresses the opinion of its congregants. No democracy would tolerate the behavior and attitude of the Arab leaders in Israel, as Israel does.. Ahmad Tibi [a member of Knesset who acted as an adviser [for full consideration] to Israel's arch enemy – at the time Yasser Arafat while chairing a meeting of the Knesset refused to read a letter signed by the Speaker of the Knesset [whose place he temporarily took] as a the letter consisted of words of solidarity with The Israeli Army. Ralb Majela, an Arab who is a member of the Government in Israel  refuses to stand up when the hatikva the National hymn is sang in public. In Um el Fachem an Arab city in the Galili you cannot find one Israeli flag but dozens of flags of the PLO. Arab youth is not obligated to go to the army but it was suggested that they do communal work.  No - according to the leadership of Israeli Arabs – as this will deny them their "national identity". A debate in the Israeli parliament took place about the living condition of Israeli Arabs. A very important issue. All Arab members of Knesset participated in the debate. All spoke about the struggle of the Palestinians against Israel [favoring the Palestinian side]  Only one member of Knesset made a short statement about the Arabs living in Israel. As this leadership do not have their congregants at heart but the making of political fortune in the other side. Chaque Ra'ad Salach who heads the Northern element of The Islamic movement of Israel will not say a single word of condemnation about Shderoth, but will accuse the Israeli of trying to conquered the Temple Mount.  After the last tragedy in Beth Hanum where a mother and four children were killed, an Arab member of Knesset accused The Israeli Army of being [and not for the first time] Nazis. When it was found that the mother and children were killed as an error of one of the terrorist standing next to them arm with ammunition, when he was blown, and that Z.H.L was not responsible, there was silence by this leadership. Never, did Israeli Arab leaders condemn terrorist attack against Israel without, in the same statement condemning Israel. And the findings of Dr. Basam Bashara, an Arab member of Knesset who delivered information to the Hizzbullah during the last war in Lebanon did not meet any condemnation by his peers.

Ahmad Tibi
The Jews in Israel know what the Israeli Arabs think by witnessing their leaders.This leadership never expressed loyalty to Israel, never supported Israel, always were at the front of condemning Israel and are promoting the Nakba, the "tragedy" as the Arabs in Israel see the independence of Israel.

This is a Jewish state. The US belong to the Americans. Those of other origin [Latin, Jews from Europe, Irish Catholics Arabs, etc. are all welcomed as equal citizens. But it is the USA. The Muslims leaving in England so not say that England does not belong to the British. The Arab are equal citizens.  They have more freedom here then in most Arab states. But unlike the Jews in new York, and many Muslims in England, they never expressed their solidarity. They always prove that they are a fifth column. This is the real Nakba of the Arabs in the streets of Israel and he has his leaders to blame.

Zalli Jaffe.
