Letter to the London Times – July 30th 2006

As an Israeli I am stunned and devastated at the tragedy in Khana this morning. No Israeli can benefit from such a calamity, and the death of so many children is a reason for mourning for Israelis as well as Lebanese. But let not this tragedy distort the facts. The only reason Israel attacks residential areas is the fact that these areas, these apartments, shelter the Hezbollah men and more so, Hezbollah ammunition. As reflected by CNN, the Katyusha tracks are parked adjacent to residential buildings. Israeli Air Force dropped leaflets warning people that the bombing would arrive, asking people to flee. Who is responsible for children being there? What kind of parent does not take his child away [hundreds of thousands of Israeli parents did so in the north]. The fault does not lie Israel but Lebanon.

A Child being trained bu the Hezbollah

When terrorists take over a country as Hezbollah did and attack children and elderly in Israel from residential centers, there is no other formula. [UK and US forces attached residential areas in Iraq and Afghanistan with much more devastating results]. The residents should not have agreed to Hezbollah being over there. The government of Lebanon should not have accepted the taking over of the south by militias. We are devastated, but the world should understand. It is the fault of the government of Lebanon. It is the crime of Hezbollah, who will not fight like men, but behind children and women.
